US President Trump uttered on the 5th that Taiwan Power will invest US$30 billion (about NT$897 trillion) to establish the world's largest crystal factory in Arizona. Regarding this, Taiwan Electric responded to the reporter's inquiry this morning, and there was no comment on this and the relevant information will be based on the company's announcement.
Affected by the news, the US deposit certificate (ADR) of Taiwan Electric fell 2.73% and closed at US$232.47. The current market of Taiwan Stock Exchange stocks was at a low of 1,125 yuan this morning, down 25 yuan, or 2.17%, affecting the entitlement index of about 201 points, and the market value evaporated NT$648.3 billion.
Trump told US media CNBC that it will announce new taxes on semiconductors and chips as soon as next week. He also said that NT$300 billion will invest in to establish the world's largest crystal factory in Arizona.
Taiwan Electric's first wafer factory in the United States has produced a 4-nanometer process in the fourth quarter of 2024. Taiwan Electric's chairman Wei Zhejia said at a legal person briefing meeting in mid-July this year that the second wafer factory will use 3-nanometer process technology and has completed construction. Due to customer needs, it is committed to accelerating the production progress for several quarters.
Wei Zhejia revealed that the third wafer factory in Asia will use 2nm and A16 process technology. Due to customers' strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI), it will consider accelerating production progress; the fourth wafer factory will use 2nm and A16 process technology, and the fifth and sixth wafer factories will use more advanced technology. The construction and production plans of these wafer factories will be determined by customer needs.
Wei Zhejia pointed out that Taiwan Electric has expanded into an ultra-large crystal plant settlement in Asia, with 2 nanometers and more advanced process capacity coming from the Arizona crystal plant, becoming an independent advanced semiconductor manufacturing settlement in the United States.
