Manchester United officially issued a message to express support for young player Rhys Bennett. His father David passed away last weekend.

Bennett announced the heartbreaking news on social media on Monday, saying he was devastated. He also took the opportunity to make an appeal to people experiencing mental health challenges, writing: Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, please speak up, you don't realize how much you are truly loved.

The club confirmed that Bennett is receiving health support from the club and requested that the outside world respect the privacy of his family. As a mark of respect, Manchester United's U21s will wear black armbands and observe a minute's silence during Tuesday night's National League Cup tie against Rochdale.
