【Destroy the Premier League system? 】The Times: The controversial Premier League "salary cap" system may be implemented as soon as next month

The core content of the system is: the "football lineup cost" (including wages, transfer fee amortization and agent fees) of any team must not exceed five times the broadcast and bonus income received by the bottom team in the league. Calculated based on the 2023/24 season data, the salary cap is approximately 550 million pounds, and some teams may immediately face the risk of non-compliance.

The penalties for violations are extremely severe: if you violate twice, you will be deducted 6 points directly, and 1 point will be deducted for each exceeding 6.5 million pounds.

Manchester United and Manchester City have clearly opposed the plan. They believe that this will make it impossible for Premier League clubs to compete with giants such as Real Madrid and Barcelona in terms of salary, leading to the exodus of top stars such as Haaland and Salah, and ultimately destroying the Premier League's status as the "world's first league." Manchester United boss Sir Ratcliffe said the plan was "ridiculous".

Premier League clubs will vote on this proposal on November 21. If more than two-thirds of the clubs support it, it will be implemented starting from next season.
