talksport reported that the English League One team Luton has started the construction of a new stadium this summer. This 25,000-seat stadium is expected to be opened in the 2028/29 season. Land was purchased for the project in 2016, but planning permission was not granted until December 2024.
The new stadium is expected to cost approximately £100 million. Chief executive Gary Sweet revealed that the extra revenue from the previous season in the Premier League had helped cover the inflationary costs of building materials and labor and allowed the club to accelerate construction.
Sweet said that this move avoided the originally planned three-phase construction strategy and saved the club more than 40 million pounds in "abortion costs." The club has announced a partnership with Türkiye's Limak Group to build a new stadium.
Luton was promoted to the Premier League in 2023 and stayed in the Premier League for only one season. Then, unfortunately, it suffered "back-to-back relegations" and is currently in the English League.
