With the advent of summer, the temperature gradually rises. Not only do people easily have "emotional heatstroke" in high temperatures, but even pets will become manic and uncontrollable, and injuries occur frequently.
Spicy summer, pet injuries have entered a high incidence period
Some days ago, the reporter learned from the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention that the number of people who come to get rabies vaccination increases every spring and summer. Recently, the center's vaccination clinic has an average of 7 or 8 citizens who come to get rabies vaccination for the first time due to animal capture and bite.
On the morning of July 16, the reporter saw at the vaccination clinic of the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention that in less than half an hour, two citizens came to consult for vaccination with wounds of different sizes.
"This is her fourth time getting rabies vaccinated! ": In the waiting area of the vaccination clinic, a mother pointed at several claw marks on her daughter's arm and showed helplessness. My daughter, Xiao Zhang, is 15 years old and has loved small animals since she was a child. Since she does not raise animals at home, she often goes to other people's houses to play. She has been scratched three times. In addition, this time she was patted in the cat cafe, which is the fourth time she has been vaccinated.
Yi Yanrong, director of the vaccination clinic of the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, introduced that every spring and summer are the high incidence of animal injuries. Due to the high temperature in summer, animals are prone to excitement and irritability. At this time, people are wearing thin clothes and have many exposed parts of their bodies, so they are easily caught or bitten. Among the vaccinated citizens, most of them were injured while playing with their pets, and a small number were injured by stray cats and dogs during outdoor activities.
After being scratched and bitten by an animal, it should be treated in time
Yi Yanrong introduced that after being bitten or scratched by an animal, the wound should be rinsed as soon as possible. Generally, the wound should be rinsed with alkaline soapy water or other weakly alkaline detergents and water for more than 15 minutes, and then scrubbed with 70-75% alcohol and 2-3% iodine respectively; after treatment, you should go to the local Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Community Health Service Center or Township Health Center for vaccination in time for rabies vaccination. The earlier the vaccine is injected, the earlier the human body produces protective antibodies, and the full vaccination must be completed; rabies vaccines and immunoglobulins can be injected according to the exposure level. In theory, vaccines can be injected before the onset of the disease, and there is no saying that the injection will be ineffective after 24 hours. After checking the wound on Xiao Zhang's arm, the outpatient doctor judged it as secondary exposure and only needed five rabies vaccines.
Do you still need to get vaccinated if you are injured? Yi Yanrong said that although many domestic pets have been vaccinated, their protection rate cannot be guaranteed to reach 100%, and it is impossible to determine whether the pet is infected or not. For the safety of everyone's life, you must get rabies vaccination in time after being injured and do not take it lightly.
Prevention is very important. Pets should be well managed. The Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention hereby reminds the general public that if you have pets at home, you must vaccinate your pets on time and take the first precaution; when going out to walk your dog, you must wear a leash or mouth cover to maintain pets in a civilized manner. In life, do not play with strange pets at will, and avoid close contact with stray cats and dogs of unknown origin, so as to avoid unnecessary harm and disputes. If you are scratched or bitten by an animal, you must get rabies vaccinated as soon as possible.
