People who don’t know, think that I must be a fierce dog that hunts bears. It would be unfair to be able to compete with bears! I am really a very gentle sheepdog!
The Great Pyrenees is just a literal name. My real name is Pyrenean Mountain Dog. Abroad, it is either a working dog or a companion dog. Few people say that we are vicious dogs that need to be banned.
Please note that this Great Pyrenees is a Pyrenean Mountain Dog. It usually helps its owner to guard livestock. Its function is completely different from that of the Pyrenean Shepherd. Some people may wonder, if they don’t just help their owners look after the livestock, what’s the difference?
It is unfair that the Great Pyrenees are banned. This kind of dog is not only a close relative, but is also extremely gentle to small animals.
A type of shepherd dog, such as a border collie, will use their eyes, body language, movement, etc. to make sheep and cattle feel like they are being hunted, so that they can go in a certain direction according to the shepherd dog's ideas. The shepherd dog will help the owner drive the sheep out, and will also watch the sheep to prevent them from getting lost, and drive the sheep back home when the time is up. Therefore, when the sheep see the sheepdog, they instinctively want to stay away, fearing that the big brother, the sheepdog, will drive them away.
The Great Pyrenees is mainly used to guard livestock and prevent them from being harmed by other predators. We mostly eat and live with the sheep and herds, protecting them from harm. The color of my coat is somewhat similar to that of a sheep, and sometimes I can’t even tell if I’m mixed in with the sheep. When guarding domestic animals, you cannot hurt them, so we have grown up with domestic animals since childhood. Whether they are chickens, ducks, geese, or lambs and calves, I will take good care of them and treat them as my own. As for those dogs that can harm domestic animals, they have been dealt with long ago during the breeding process, and the remaining ones are basically friendly to small animals! So don’t worry about whether the cat owner and I can get along harmoniously. I will take good care of the kitten and let it go even if it is bullied.
Not only are we friendly to small animals, we have always worked with humans. From 80-year-olds to 3-year-olds, we can all play together. However, due to our large size, sometimes children cannot bear the impact of a paw, so it is best for parents to watch from the side.
Many Great Pyrenees have been farm dogs or ranch dogs for generations, but there is a Great Pyrenees named Duke who was elected as the mayor of a village in Minnesota in the United States in 2014 and was re-elected for three years. In the end, the owner voluntarily withdrew from the election. From an ordinary farm dog to a mayor, it can be said that he has a glorious ancestor. And Duke also used this story to tell us all the dogs that hard work is not necessary to reach the peak of dog life, as long as you work hard and act cute. After learning this, many dogs entered the family and became pet dogs, being held in the hands of their owners and pampered.

Although the owner loves us very much and likes to take me to hug and lift him up since we were young, within a few months, his old waist could not bear my weight of nearly 100 kilograms. My mistress also loves to hold me and watch TV in the winter, but she can’t stand it in the summer! Without the whirring air conditioner, I didn't dare to come near me. There is no air conditioning in the summer, which is unbearable for most people. I am so hot that I can't stop breathing. Don’t skimp on the air conditioner in summer. It’s best to leave it on 24 hours a day.
In addition to being afraid of heat, I am also prone to joint problems. There’s no way I’m bigger, and the burden on my joints is also greater! If you see me hesitating when climbing stairs, or suddenly refusing to move while walking, it’s not that I’m being disobedient, but it may be that my joints and bones are uncomfortable and I can’t move. Although being strong has great side effects, only being strong enough can protect your family. I think it is better to be stronger.
We, the Great Pyrenees dog family, are actually a breed that loves small animals and humans. It is unfair to us that we are banned from breeding for no reason! Please remember, we are not fierce dogs~
